ERASMUS+ Adventure in Naples: Day 3

Mar 27, 2026 | Erasmus+

The third day of our Erasmus adventure was unforgettable. We started our day in Pompeii. This ancient city is famous for having been buried under volcanic ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. It’s incredible to think that this disaster, by burying the city in ash, actually helped preserve it, offering us a unique glimpse into what life was like back then.

Exploring the ruins was like travelling back in time. You can still see streets almost intact, as well as houses and shops (such as bakeries with their ovens), and even brothels! We also learned how these places used frescoes with sexual themes to attract customers.

One of the most surprising things for us is that Pompeii was discovered by chance in the 18th century, after being buried for centuries under layers of volcanic ash and debris that made it look like ordinary land. Since then, archaeologists have been uncovering its secrets. It is full of small details and stories that made the visit truly special.

After returning to Naples we took the metro to continue observing at the CPIA (Centro Provinciale per l’Istruzione degli Adulti) Città 2. This time, we attended a traditional Neapolitan dance class called the “tammurriata”. We spent the whole afternoon laughing, dancing, and having a wonderful time with the teacher Maria Grazia and our lovely host, Anabella.

To end the day, we met with other Erasmus students and teachers at a café near the educational centre. It was the perfect way to relax and spend time together after such a fun and busy day.

Our Erasmus experience has come to an end. We will always remember our time in Naples with great fondness”
